Jim Carrey’s ex Jenny McCarthy reacts to clone conspiracy after his ‘new look’

Jenny McCarthy recalled the ‘first thing’ she noticed

Jenny McCarthy has weighed in on Jim Carrey’s appearance at an awards show in France.

Carrey, 64, attended the César Awards in Paris on February 26, and some fans thought he looked different to how he did at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in November.

In fact, it even sparked conspiracy theories that it wasn’t Carrey at all and he’d actually been replaced by a ‘clone’.

The clone theory has been directed at other celebrities too, including Avril Lavigne, Eminem, and Paul McCartney, who have all been subject to the strange conspiracy.

SFX make-up artist Alexis Stone – who is known for impersonating A-listers – added fuel to the fire when he shared a photo of a prosthetic face mask which looked eerily similar to Carrey.

He captioned the post: “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”

Now, McCarthy – who dated the actor from 2005 to 2010 – has shared her thoughts on the viral theory.

While attending the iHeartRadio Music Awards, McCarthy told People ‘it was definitely Jim Carrey’.

And clone theories aside, she had one thing in particular to say about the way that Carrey looked at the César Awards.

“He looked very happy at that award show,” McCarthy said. “And I was happy for him.

“That’s the first thing I noticed. I said, ‘Oh wow, Jim looks really happy.'”

McCarthy’s husband, Donnie Wahlberg, also weighed in, remarking how the fact that Carrey looked very happy could easily have been overlooked.

“You know, that’s the part that, sadly, people miss,” he said. “We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked.”

The actor had been attending the award ceremony to be awarded his Honorary César.

Gregory Caulier was the general delegate of the César Awards and said that Carrey had been ‘extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation’.

In a statement to Variety, he said: “Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.”

Addressing Carrey’s appearance, Caulier added: “For me, it’s a non-issue. Just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”

Carrey and McCarthy got together back in 2005, before their relationship came to an end five years later.

In a statement at the time, McCarthy said: “I’m so grateful for the years Jim and I shared together. I will continue to be in his daughter’s life and will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart.”

A representative for Jim Carrey previously told People: “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”
